What Are Implant Dentures?

Dental implants are small posts, usually made of titanium, that we surgically place into the jawbone. Their job is to act as prosthetic tooth roots. They fuse with the surrounding tissue, and afterward, they are able to provide an incredibly strong base of support for restorations, including crowns, bridges, and dentures.

There are two main categories of implant dentures:

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

As their name suggests, fixed implant dentures are permanently attached to their support posts; they can only be removed by a dental professional. This is the strongest way to replace a full arch of teeth, and many patients enjoy the convenience of having a 24/7 smile. However, it requires more implants than a removable denture and therefore more jawbone density.

Removable Implant Dentures

A removable implant denture snaps onto and off of small attachments on top of the implant posts. It is easy to take out of the mouth for oral hygiene purposes. As few as 2 – 5 implants may be necessary per dental arch, so this is a great option for patients who have lost some bone density in their jaw.

The Implant Denture Procedure

The implant denture procedure has four main steps:

  • During your consultation, we will verify that you are a suitable candidate for the procedure and start planning your next steps.
  • We will place your implants in your jawbone during a minimally invasive surgery.
  • Over a period of a few months, your implants will bond with your body through a biological process known as osseointegration.
  • We will restore your implants with a beautiful new denture.

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures might be right for you if:

  • You are missing all or most of your teeth throughout one of your dental arches.
  • Your jawbone is strong enough to support dental implants.
  • You are free of active gum disease and other conditions that might compromise your new smile.
  • You have good habits that will support your implants’ long-term success.

Even if you are not a candidate for implant dentures right away, you might become one after some preliminary care. That is why we encourage you to come in for a consultation, even if you are unsure about your prospects for tooth replacement.

Benefits of Combining Dentures & Dental Implants

Implant dentures offer some impressive benefits:

  • Greater Stability: An implant denture is remarkably secure, which can help you eat and speak with more confidence.
  • Stronger Bite Force: You can enjoy a wide variety of foods because implant support gives your denture more bite force than traditional options.
  • Better Comfort: You may experience less slipping, rubbing, and sore spots than you would with traditional dentures.
  • Jawbone Support: Dental implants stimulate the jawbone, which can help preserve its shape and reduce bone loss over time.
  • Improved Speech: You should be able to speak more clearly because a stable denture is unlikely to shift while you talk.
  • Long-Term Value: Implant dentures last longer than their traditional counterparts, making them a smart investment in terms of both function and monetary value.

Implant Dentures FAQs

Will Implant Dentures from Landmark Dental Studio Allow Me to Eat the Foods I Miss Most?

Our team at Landmark Dental Studio knows firsthand that one of the most rewarding parts of implant denture treatment is helping patients regain confidence at mealtime. Many people who have struggled with traditional dentures avoid foods like steak, apples, nuts, salads, and other favorites because they are difficult or uncomfortable to eat.

Implant dentures provide significantly more stability than traditional dentures, allowing patients to enjoy a much wider variety of foods. While every case is unique, patients are often amazed by how much more comfortable and natural eating feels after treatment.  We want to help you eat like a kid again!

Am I Too Old for Implant Dentures?

Age alone rarely determines whether someone is a candidate for dental implants. In fact, many of our implant patients at Landmark Dental Studio are in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond. What matters most is your overall health, bone support, and treatment goals.

If you're healthy enough for routine dental treatment, there's a good chance implant dentures may be an option worth exploring. Our Greenwood Village team can evaluate your specific situation and help you understand what's possible.

Will My Implant Dentures from Landmark Dental Studio Look Like Natural Teeth?

This is one of the first questions many patients ask, and understandably so. Most people want a smile that looks healthy, attractive, and natural, not one that looks overly artificial or obvious.

At Landmark Dental Studio, we carefully design each restoration to complement your facial features, smile line, and overall appearance. Our goal is to create a result that looks like it belongs to you, allowing you to smile confidently without feeling self-conscious about your teeth.

Why Do Some Patients Choose Implant Dentures Instead of Traditional Dentures?

Great question!  Many patients tell our team that they are tired of dealing with slipping dentures, adhesives, sore spots, and limitations when eating or speaking. Implant dentures offer a more secure and stable solution because they are supported by dental implants rather than relying solely on the gums for retention.

For many Greenwood Village patients, the improved comfort, confidence, and quality of life make implant dentures a worthwhile long-term investment.

Can Landmark Dental Studio Complete My Implant Denture Treatment In One Place?

Yes!  One of the advantages of choosing Landmark Dental Studio is our ability to provide many aspects of implant treatment under one roof. From advanced diagnostics and treatment planning to implant placement and restoration, our team coordinates your care from start to finish.

Patients appreciate having a trusted team guiding them through every phase of treatment rather than visiting multiple offices throughout the process.

How Long Can Implant Dentures Last?

Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution for tooth replacement. With proper care and regular dental visits, the implants themselves can often last for decades. The restoration attached to the implants may eventually require maintenance or replacement due to normal wear, but many of our patients enjoy years of dependable function and confidence from their treatment.

Dr. Mickle and our experienced team will provide guidance on cleaning, maintenance, and routine follow-up care to help protect your investment.

How Do I Know If Implant Dentures Are Right for Me?

The best way to find out is through a personalized consultation, which you are in luck, we offer at Landmark Dental Studio!  During your visit, we'll discuss your concerns, evaluate your oral health, review advanced imaging, and learn more about your goals.

Whether you're currently wearing dentures, facing multiple extractions, or simply exploring your options, our Greenwood Village team can help you understand the solutions available and determine whether implant dentures are the right fit for your lifestyle and long-term goals.
